Most Active Trademark Enforcers

Who files the most oppositions and cancellations at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, from USPTO records.

If you are choosing a name, this is a list worth knowing. A conflict is a different proposition when the mark's owner opposes routinely than when they have never filed a proceeding. That does not make opposing wrong — trademark owners are obliged to police their marks, and rights weaken if they do not — but it does change the odds that a borderline name draws a challenge.

Lists like this are sometimes called “trademark bullies”. We do not use that term here: filing volume tracks portfolio size far more closely than it tracks aggression, and nothing in this data supports a claim about any company's conduct.

What this counts, and what it does not

These lists rank parties by the number of proceedings they have filed at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, taken from USPTO public records. Nothing here is a finding about anyone's conduct.

Volume mostly tracks portfolio size. A company holding thousands of registrations will oppose far more often than one holding a handful, and the overwhelming majority of oppositions are ordinary, legitimate enforcement of rights the owner is obliged to police. A high position on this list is not evidence of overreach, and we make no such claim about any party named.

Extensions of time to oppose are counted separately from oppositions throughout. They are roughly a third of all filings at the Board and are not themselves proceedings. Methodology · Request a correction
